Alpena, Michigan Wedding Film

Colton and Alyssa celebrated their wedding on July 25, 2026, with an intimate private backyard wedding in Alpena, Michigan. Surrounded by the people closest to them, the day had a relaxed and personal atmosphere that made the celebration feel less like a traditional wedding and more like a gathering of family and friends. From getting ready to the ceremony and the moments shared throughout the afternoon, every part of the day reflected the couple and the life they are building together.

One of the best things about a backyard wedding is the freedom to make the day completely their own, and Colton and Alyssa embraced that feeling throughout their celebration. The familiar setting, close-knit guest list, and natural Michigan surroundings created plenty of opportunities for genuine moments, from emotional exchanges to laughter and time spent with the people who mattered most. Their July 25th wedding was a beautiful reminder that a meaningful wedding does not need to be elaborate. Sometimes, the most memorable celebrations happen right at home, surrounded by the people you love.

Their Wedding Story

Alyssa and Colton’s July 25, 2026 wedding in Alpena, Michigan was a perfect example of how a private property can become an incredible wedding setting when thoughtful planning and intentional design come together. Their day began at All Saints Catholic Parish // St. Mary Church in downtown Alpena before transitioning to a large, modern cabin on the edge of a lake for the reception. The property itself immediately gave the day a distinct sense of place, with the surrounding woods, water, and architecture providing a natural backdrop that felt completely personal to the couple. From the beginning of the reception portion of the day, the wedding felt refined, well planned, and intimate.

When filming a private-property wedding like this, one of my priorities is to make the finished film feel like it could only belong to that couple. Rather than treating the cabin simply as a location, I intentionally focused on the details and aesthetics of the home, the surrounding property, and the interior spaces to establish the atmosphere before the major events unfolded. The open-concept cabin made the logistics particularly straightforward, with the ceremony, reception tent, lake, and surrounding areas all positioned close together. That allowed me to move efficiently throughout the day while still capturing the property from different perspectives and building a visual story around a place that was meaningful to Alyssa and Colton.

The contrast between the private cabin setting and the reception design was one of the most memorable elements of the wedding. Alyssa and Colton created a rustic yet premium atmosphere, complete with a red carpet leading toward the backyard reception and a substantial investment in their tent and décor. The cabin even featured a built-in bar that the bartenders were able to utilize during the reception. Instead of feeling like a casual backyard gathering, the property was transformed into an intimate, highly intentional wedding venue. Their investment in experienced vendors, including Timeless Ties Events, who handled the planning and setup, played a major role in making the entire environment feel polished and cohesive.

From a filmmaking perspective, this wedding also benefited from the way the property naturally connected all of the important parts of the day. The weather was slightly overcast with temperatures in the mid-70s, creating comfortable conditions and soft, consistent natural light throughout much of the day. I used my standard three-camera setup for the major events, which allows Gilded Heart Films to comprehensively cover ceremonies, speeches, dances, and other important moments while maintaining consistent, reliable coverage. For me, the goal isn't simply to record what happens. It's to anticipate the moments that matter, maintain coverage from multiple perspectives, and give the finished film enough visual variety to feel cinematic without making the filmmaking itself distracting.

One of my favorite aspects of Alyssa and Colton's wedding was the opportunity to use their family's property as part of their story. The lake, woods, cabin, interior spaces, and reception environment all became pieces of the visual narrative rather than simply backgrounds behind the couple. This is one of the reasons I believe wedding videography benefits from a documentary-minded approach. Every couple has different people, places, traditions, and environments that make their wedding uniquely theirs, and my job as a filmmaker is to recognize those details and incorporate them intentionally into the final film. For Alyssa and Colton, the result was a wedding film rooted in the feeling of their own private setting rather than something that could have been filmed at any generic venue.

Ultimately, Alyssa and Colton's Alpena wedding demonstrated what is possible when a couple combines a meaningful private location with strong planning and an experienced vendor team. Their celebration was refined, well planned, and intimate, but it never lost the character of the family property that made the day special. From their ceremony at St. Mary Church in downtown Alpena to the lakefront cabin reception surrounded by woods, the entire day offered opportunities to create something personal and visually distinctive. For couples considering a private backyard or cabin wedding in Northern Michigan, their wedding is a great example of how thoughtful planning, intentional design, and professional wedding filmmaking can transform a private property into a memorable wedding experience.

Filming at Alpena MI

Colton and Alyssa chose a private family property in Alpena, Michigan, creating an intimate setting where their wedding could feel personal, relaxed, and completely their own.

Private Backyard Setting

Their ceremony took place at All Saints Catholic Parish, St. Mary Church, bringing their families and closest friends together for a beautiful and meaningful beginning to the day.

A Meaningful Ceremony

After the ceremony, guests gathered at a large, open-concept modern cabin on the family property. The space provided a warm, inviting atmosphere for dinner, drinks, and celebrating together.

The Perfect Reception Space

One of the cabin's standout features was its built-in bar, which became a natural gathering point throughout the evening. Bartenders were able to utilize the space seamlessly while guests enjoyed drinks and conversation.

A Reception Made for Celebration

Colton and Alyssa invested in an experienced planning team through Timeless Ties Events, a trusted planning partner who regularly refers couples to Gilded Heart Films. Their attention to detail helped the entire day feel organized without sacrificing its intimate atmosphere.

Thoughtfully Planned From Start to Finish

With such a personal setting, the goal was to create a film that felt specific to Colton and Alyssa rather than simply documenting a wedding timeline. The family property, relationships, and small moments throughout the day all became part of their story.

Focused on the Moments That Mattered

Colton and Alyssa's wedding was refined, well-planned, and intimate. From their church ceremony to the private cabin reception, every part of the day reflected the people, family, and property that made it uniquely theirs.
